An apprenticeship is all about learning and asking questions; to help you out we've answered some of the more frequently asked ones below. If we've missed anything just let us know!
A Shared Apprenticeship Service, like CoTrain, allows contractors to “share” the responsibility of an
apprentice. While CoTrain employs the apprentice and handles logistics, contractors host the apprentice for a period that suits their project needs.
Placements are flexible and agreed upon upfront. Typically, the duration aligns with the length of a specific project or trade package; minimum 6 months.
CoTrain operates on a cost-recovery basis. The monthly charge-out rate covers the apprentice’s salary, payroll, travel allowance, college coordination, and ongoing support.
CoTrain employs the apprentice and manages all aspects of PAYE, payroll, tax, and insurance. Contractors simply provide on-site training as a “host.”
CoTrain provides a free recruitment service, matching local talent to projects. Apprentices start placements fully aware of their responsibilities and expectations.
At the end of a placement, contractors have the option to:
• Retain the apprentice for their next job
• Return the apprentice to CoTrain for placement elsewhere
CoTrain organises the apprentice’s college training and conducts regular 12-week reviews both on-site and at college to ensure progress and address any issues.
• Compliance with apprenticeship requirements
• Flexibility for shorter-term contracts
• Cost-effectiveness through a cost-recovery model
• Minimal administrative burden
• Social value delivery
Apprentices’ complete industry-recognised qualifications up to apprenticeship standards in areas such as:
• Site Carpentry
• Quantity Surveying
• Construction Site Management
• Business Administration
• Painting & Decorating
• And more
CoTrain works across the South East of England, including East Sussex, London and Kent, partnering with local authorities, Tier 1 contractors, and the supply chain.
