Westridge employ trainees and apprentices annually with the intention of placing them in suitable inhouse positions on a permanent basis.  They operate an ‘open door’ policy that creates openness, transparency and encourages apprentices to communicate easily with their managers, mentors and other members of staff within the organisation.  

Since 2010 they have recruited 48 apprentices and trainees, 30 of them still work for Westridge; a number work at a senior level and are integral to the company succession plan.  Westridge provide their trainees with a programme that includes practical experience for the duration of their apprenticeship, rotating placements every three months to gain practical experience in various disciplines, and college attendance once a week to gain a relevant qualification. 

They develop good relationships with the college tutors and assessors to confirm that their apprentices are getting the right support and assign mentors to help them to achieve their full potential. Regular communication and development reviews make sure apprentices have full insight into how they are doing.  They receive annual pay reviews, are included in the company’s bonus scheme and ‘red letters’ are issued throughout the year to those who are progressing well.
